Our passion for the Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog started in May 2011, when in our yard and our family entered the first dog, B-Turcu, an imposing and devoted male, with a very well balanced temper. At that time we did not imagine that, within only few years, a sensational connection will be created between us and B-Turcu, a connection which will make us to love this native breed from all our hearts and to want to promote and to support it with all our resources, in order for the breed to become known and appreciated in Romania and also abroad.
This breed conquered us not only with its absolutely beautiful and majestic appearance, but also with its character, calmness, devotion, its infinite love for the owner and the members of the family, its dignity, dependability and its way of being around us without demanding attention or being nervous or fussy but always being alert and eager to defend us of any possible danger. As the shepherds of the Carpathian Mountains say, the Raven is so valiant that it confronts the bear without any hesitation.
One year after B-Turcu became a member of our family, we started to take him to dog shows, the first one being the Romanian Shepherd Dogs Championship in Predeal in 2012, afterwards we went to the Romanian Shepherd Dogs Championship in Predeal in 2013 and after that we constantly went to many of the dog shows organised by the county kennel clubs and under the auspices of the Romanian Kennel Club.
In 2015 Jojo de Predeal joined us. She is a typical female of Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog, beautiful, proud and with a strong personality.
After having Jojo we realised that we cannot stop there and that we want to breed this wonderful breed, therefore, in December 2017 De Tara Barsei Kennel was officially born, being registered by the Romanian Kennel Club and by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) under the kennel affix “DE TARA BARSEI”. The name of the kennel has been inspired by its geographical location within the area of the historical region of Țara Bârsei, about 20 km from Brașov, on the shores of the river Olt, in the Podu Oltului village, Hărman commune, Brașov county, Romania.
De atunci, canisa a crescut și s-a dezvoltat organic, a devenit cunoscută pe plan național, mulți din cânii născuți și/sau crescuți aici ajungând Campioni Europeni (E.W.), Campioni România Junior („R.J.Ch.”), Campioni România („R.Ch.”), Campioni România cum Laudae („R.Ch.C.L.”) și Campioni România Veterani („R.V.Ch.”).
Moreover, starting with 2019 the dogs from De Tara Barsei Kennel have started to be known and appreciated abroad too, such as until today several dogs left to proudly represent their breed, becoming cherished members of families in Sweden and Poland and successfully participating in dog shows in their adopting countries.
De Tara Barsei Kennel is a member of the COVASNA KENNEL CLUB (www.achcovasna.ro) and, subsequently, of the ROMANIAN KENNEL CLUB (www.achr.ro) and it is also a member of KLUB FÜR SÜD- UND OSTEUROPÄISCHE HIRTENHUNDE (KSOH) from Switzerland (http://www.hirtenhunde-schweiz.ch ). ASOCIAȚIEI CHINOLOGICE COVASNA și, subsecvent, a ASOCIAȚIEI CHINOLOGICE ROMÂNE și este, de asemenea, membră a KLUB FÜR SÜD- UND OSTEUROPÄISCHE HIRTENHUNDE (KSOH) din Elveția.
We intend to continue very responsibly our work of selection and breeding, to respect and to honour the standard of the breed Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog so as to contribute as much as possible to obtaining the final international recognition of this breed by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and to make known to as many people as possible the joy of having as faithful friend a Romanian Raven Shepherd Dog.
